Carl Newman
Carl Newman has been sculpting professionally since 1994. Inspired by the natural world, he creates detailed sculptures of wildlife, capturing the character and movement of his subjects with remarkable precision. His work ranges in scale, from small collectible pieces to larger statement sculptures for both interior and exterior display.
Carl typically sculpts wild animals and birds, first crafting a clay original before creating moulds in high-grade silicon rubber. His sculptures are then cast in limited editions using materials such as pewter, bronze, and bronze resin. He also works extensively with wood, exploring the unique textures and natural forms it provides.
His metalcasting has received high acclaim, with one of his most notable works—a bronze Peregrine Falcon—being specially commissioned for the International Centre for Birds of Prey in Newent, Gloucestershire. The piece was presented to HRH The Princess Royal in recognition of her patronage and support of the centre.
Carl has exhibited at Mill Tye Gallery for over seven years, and his work continues to be a highlight of our collections.
Carl: “It’s a privilege to have my sculptures exhibited at Mill Tye Gallery. The gallery provides a unique space where art and nature come together, set in such an inspiring location by the River Stour.”
