Greta Hansen
Greta Hansen is a Suffolk-based printmaker whose work is deeply influenced by the landscape and coastline of East Anglia. Working primarily in relief printing, etching, watercolour, and pastel, her pieces capture the ever-changing moods of the natural world with subtle textures and rich layers of colour.
A former student of Ipswich Art School, St Martins and London University, Greta’s artistic journey began in fashion before transitioning into teaching art and pottery in both London and Suffolk. Alongside her teaching career, she continued developing her own work, exhibiting in London, Suffolk and beyond.
Her passion for printmaking took shape over 20 years ago after attending courses at Gainsborough’s House, where she studied etching and relief printing, including an inspiring woodcut course with Michael Carlo. As a member of the Gainsborough’s House Print Workshop and later the Suffolk Craft Society, she has exhibited widely, showcasing her prints at venues such as Aldeburgh, Snape, Lincoln, Norfolk, and Bury St Edmunds. Her work has also been featured in publications by Mascot Media, celebrating artists and printmakers from Suffolk and Norfolk.
Greta’s printmaking process is highly intuitive, evolving from on-site sketches into carefully composed prints. She is particularly drawn to the unexpected colour effects achieved through transparent ink layers, adding depth and atmosphere to her work.
Now exhibiting at Mill Tye Gallery, Greta brings her distinctive vision of the East Anglian landscape to our collection, where visitors can explore her unique interpretations of nature through print.
