Well-known and respected Suffolk designer Peter Rumsey, has always had a passion for art. As owner of O32 Design, which was previously based at the Mill, he has long been employing and training young people in design. Then in 2017, Peter set up a pop-up exhibition highlighting the work of local printmakers. As well as supporting artists, he wanted to show that the story of Sudbury’s art is not confined to past glories.
The exhibition was scheduled for 3 months. But so well received was the show, that the pop-up became permanent. It was clear that Peter had tapped into a demand for contemporary art that had previously been unfulfilled.
The Mill Tye Gallery is now
home to the works of local
printmakers as well as
contemporary artists, sculptors, potters and textile designers.
Peter says, “The Gallery is a celebration of Sudbury, the Stour Valley and the fantastic talent the area has fostered.
“I have two great passions. One is to support local artists, encouraging them to create collections and providing them with a showcase for their pieces. The other is to provide a beautiful environment for visitors to explore and enjoy works of art.
“Our mission for the Mill Tye Gallery is to make Sudbury famous for its current and emerging artists, not just its past masters.
“I would love your support. Please do visit the gallery, let me know what you think, and spread the word if you like it. I sincerely hope you do.”
