Behind the Canvas: The creative process of 'The Girl in the Moon'

Writer: Mill Tye GalleryMill Tye Gallery

Step into the creative journey behind 'The Girl in the Moon', the title piece of my upcoming May exhibition at Mill Tye Gallery. Here, I share a series of rough Photoshop sketches that guided the development of the final painting.

This post includes a sheet of five numbered roughs I made in Photoshop leading to the painting ‘The Girl in the Moon’, the title of my forthcoming exhibition at the Mill Tye Gallery in May. The sequence of images shows my establishing the orientation of the floating girl and the sense of her drifting into a brighter area, thereby playing down the floor pattern while intensifying the lava-like glow around the circumferences of the moons upon the wall. From image five I produced an initial, smaller painting as a sort of warm-up for the larger one in which I introduced an eclipsing second moon.
