Service Description

Workshop 1: The Colours of Place Join artist Terry Flower for a hands-on workshop that encourages participants to draw inspiration from the forms and colours of the landscape surrounding Mill Tye. Date: Thursday 12th June 2025 Time: 9:30am to 12:30pm Duration: Approximately 3 hours Price: £48 per person Workshop Overview: This workshop explores how the colours and forms of the local landscape can inspire personal creativity and visual storytelling. We will begin by observing the unique colour palette of the Mill Tye area, drawing inspiration from the natural tones, textures, and patterns found along the river Stour and in the surrounding countryside. Participants will experiment with colour mixing to create a series of painted papers, each reflecting the local hues. Using these painted sheets, we’ll dive into the art of collage - cutting and arranging shapes to form layered compositions that echo the organic forms of the plants and foliage around us. This workshop is perfect for artists of all levels who are eager to explore a unique approach to colour and form, translating the beauty of nature into abstract or representational art. Key Takeaways: • A custom palette inspired by the Mill Tye landscape • Techniques for creating textured, layered compositions through collage • An appreciation for the subtle variations in nature’s colour schemes • A completed collage that captures the essence of the local environment. Refreshments: Tea, coffee, cakes, and biscuits will be provided. What to wear: Comfortable clothing that you can move around in with ease. As some of the class could take place outside, please bring warm waterproof clothes and sensible footwear. Access: Please note this workshop is held in the upper gallery, which is not accessible for wheelchair users. We apologise for any inconvenience. Spaces are limited, so early booking is highly recommended to secure your place. ABOUT YOUR TUTOR: Since graduating from Goldsmiths College, London, in 1986, Terry Flower has dedicated his career to both teaching and creating art. With a deep passion for exploring the theme of landscape, Terry’s work spans a variety of media, including sculpture, painting, photography, and bookworks. His experience and creative approach bring a unique perspective to his workshops, making them both inspiring and educational for participants of all skill levels.
