Workshop 2: The Narrative of Place Join artist Terry Flower for a hands-on workshop that encourages participants to delve into the art of storytelling through sequential imagery and text, creating a personal narrative inspired by the landscape. Date: Thursday 19th June Time: 9:30am to 12:30pm Duration: Approximately 3 hours Price: £48 per person Workshop Overview: This workshop invites participants to delve into the art of storytelling through sequential imagery and text, creating a personal narrative inspired by the landscape. We’ll start with a guided walk along the river Stour, pausing to take in the sights, sounds, and sensations of the journey. Participants will be encouraged to sketch, take notes, and collect visual observations along the way, focusing on details that capture their experience of place. Returning to the gallery, each participant will use their sketches and notes to assemble a small concertina book. This book will serve as a journey through the landscape—a visual diary that conveys the essence of the river Stour and the surrounding countryside. This workshop combines elements of visual art and creative writing, making it ideal for those who want to blend words and images into a cohesive story. Key Takeaways: • Techniques for capturing observations and impressions quickly in the field • Skills in layout and sequencing to create a flowing visual narrative • An introduction to the concertina book format and basic bookmaking techniques • A handmade book that reflects the landscape’s story through a blend of sketches and words. Refreshments: Tea, coffee, cakes, and biscuits will be provided. What to wear: Comfortable clothing that you can move around in with ease. As some of the class could take place outside, please bring warm waterproof clothes and sensible footwear. Access: Please note this workshop is held in the upper gallery, which is not accessible for wheelchair users. Spaces are limited, so early booking is highly recommended to secure your place.
